Basket Weaving Workshop

Instructor Kris Ball is a resident of Linwood, Kansas and a member of TAC.  She is well-versed in many arts and crafts from glass-blowing, to bead making to jewelry design.  Recently she has developed a passion for basket weaving. Come join her in making your own basket to take with you.

Tonganoxie Arts Council will have a team of 4 competing in Lindsborg's Chalk the Valk contest. We still have one spot open.  Let us know if you want to participate - registration deadline is March 20th.
TAC will pay the registration fee and provide the chalk.

Craft Days with Tongie Terrace Residents

Experience fun craft days with Tongie Terrace residents. Create holiday crafts on select Fridays at 1010 East Street, Tonganoxie, KS 66086. Join us on May 16th, October 24th, and December 12th at 1:30 pm. Each resident has a different level of ability, so the more volunteers, the better!  Come join us to brighten someone's day.

Paint on the Patio

Join us on August 7th and August 21st, 2025, at County Road Brewing, 1601 Commerce Dr., Tonganoxie, Kansas, for a unique painting event. Come paint a board to be displayed downtown annually along with the other painted boards that adorn the street lights.  The Tonganoxie Arts Council (TAC) will retain ownership of the board, showcasing it year after year. Let your creativity shine!

Join us for a night of Storytelling!

Tonganoxie Community Historical Society

201 W. Washington St., Tonganoxie, KS

Folks trying out for the Tall Tales Competition at the Kansas Storytelling Festival Friday, April 24, 2026 at Downs, Kansas will compete for the Northeast Kansas spot in the final four competition.

Two other tryouts will take place, one in Wichita (1 spot) and one in Downs (2 spots).  Open to everyone, regardless of where you reside. 

Come listen to the competitors, enjoy food from the 1866 food truck and then listen to nationally acclaimed storyteller, Paul Strickland.  

5:00pm - Tall Tale Tryouts

6:30pm - Judging and dinner (1866 food truck on site for purchase- drinks and desserts provided by TAC - donation encouraged)

7:30pm - winner announced

7:35 pm - Featured artist - Paul Strickland

Paul Strickland is a professional storyteller and theatre artist who lives in Kentucky. He has well over 7 hours of unique family friendly stories in his repertoire, including reupholstered folk tales, fairytales for adults and future adults, tall-tales and even historical stories that just happened to have never happened.  Paul was a Teller-in-Residence at the International Storytelling Center in 2024.   He was a FEATURED TELLER: NEW VOICE at the National Storytelling Festival in 2023. He was also a Featured Teller at the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival in September of 2023, and has been a featured teller at several major storytelling festivals, including the Cave Run Storytelling Festival, in 2022.   Paul LOVES telling stories in every imaginable environment, from comedy clubs to elementary and middle schools, corporate events and even two prisons - where he was NOT an inmate at the time.
